Return and Earn for Sydney Wildlife Rescue

Everyday, litter finds its way to our streets, waterways, beaches and parks. You can help our environment AND our native wildlife by bringing your eligible containers to any Return and Earn station in NSW AND donating the proceeds to Sydney Wildlife Rescue.

Through this scheme, anyone who returns an eligible drink container to an approved NSW collection point will receive a 10-cent refund. You can choose to allocate your refund as a donation to Sydney Wildlife Rescue.

20 bottles or cans will provide fruit for a bat for one day. 250 will provide food for a possum for a month. 400 will provide shelter for a small bird.

All you need to do is download the Return and Earn app (link below) and select payout to ‘Sydney Wildlife Rescue - Our Wildlife Needs Us’. At the machine it’s easy too – just scan the barcode – no need to touch screens.

Every bottle and can counts, so please help us care for sick, injured & orphaned wildlife and our environment, their habitat, at the same time.

The impact of container litter on our birdlife and environment

GOOD TO GO:

These containers are most commonly found as litter in NSW. They’re often consumed ‘on the go.’

  • Cans (e.g. soft drinks)
  • Bottles ( e.g. beer bottles)
  • Cartons
  • Juice boxes or poppers

Most containers between 150ml and 3 litres are accepted and can get you a refund. However, they must…

  • Be in good condition (not be crushed or broken)
  • Be empty
  • Have the label attached

NO GO: items that are not refundable

These items aren’t accepted, but can still go into household recycling. They’re often used at home.

  • Plain milk containers or cartons
  • Glass wine bottles
  • Glass spirit bottles
  • Cordial bottles
  • Pure juice containers over 1 litre (comprising of at least 90% pure juice)
